Both include individually written programming and nutrition coaching, and both are built from an assessment rather than a template.

Choosing

Which one fits you

The honest version, rather than a push towards the more expensive option.

Choose in-person if you are new to resistance training and need someone watching your technique, if you are working around an injury where load has to be adjusted on the day, or if you know from experience that you do not train consistently without an appointment and another person waiting.

Choose online if you already know your way around a gym, if your schedule is too unpredictable for a fixed weekly slot, if you are not in Edinburgh, or if budget is a genuine constraint. Consistent online coaching for a year beats in-person sessions you stop paying for after eight weeks.

Or do both in sequence. A block of in-person sessions to build technique and confidence, then a move online to carry it forward at lower cost, with occasional in-person sessions when something needs eyes on it. This is a common route rather than an unusual request.

There is a fuller comparison, including the honest weaknesses of each, in online coaching versus in-person training. If you genuinely cannot tell, apply and say so, and you will be told which fits, including when that is the cheaper option.

Process

What happens after you apply

No sales call, no pressure tactics, no discount that expires this evening.

1. You apply

The application form takes about five minutes. It asks about your goal, your training history, any injuries or limitations, and which service you are interested in. It is genuinely used, not a lead capture.

2. Callan reviews it personally, within 24 hours

Every application is read by Callan rather than an assistant or an automated funnel, and you get a reply by email with next steps. If what you want is not something he can deliver well, you will be told that instead of being sold something.

3. Assessment before any programme is written

Nothing gets programmed until there is something to programme from: training history, injuries, what equipment and time you genuinely have, what you currently eat across a real week, how you sleep, and what you have already tried and abandoned.

4. Your programme is built

Written from scratch around that assessment. For online clients it is delivered through the coaching app with sets, reps, loads and exercise demonstrations. For in-person clients it shapes the sessions from the first one.

5. Weekly review from there

Training performance, weight trend, measurements, energy, sleep and hunger get looked at together each week, and one variable gets changed at a time for a stated reason. The programme in month three will look substantially different from the one you started with.

Client numbers are kept deliberately small, which is what makes individual programming possible. It also means places are not always available immediately.

Common Questions

Is online coaching as effective as in-person?

For most people, yes. The programming, nutrition work and weekly review are identical. The one real difference is real-time correction, which matters most if you are new to lifting or working around an injury. If neither applies to you, online delivers the same result for less money.

How much does coaching cost?

In-person: single session £50, block of 4 for £180, block of 8 for £320. Each session is one hour. Online coaching: £120/month on a rolling monthly contract with no minimum term. There is no joining fee and no facility fee on top.

How quickly will I see results?

Changes in energy and sleep often come within two weeks. Physical changes in body composition and strength usually show within 4 to 6 weeks. Timeline depends on your starting point, consistency and goals, and nobody can honestly promise a specific result by a specific date.

Is nutrition included?

Yes. Nutrition strategy is built into every plan rather than sold as an add-on. As a nutritionist, Callan writes full nutrition guidance alongside your training programme.

Do I need to be experienced to start?

No. Beginners are exactly who this is built for. The programme starts from where you are now rather than assuming a baseline of fitness or gym experience. You do not need to get in shape before you start.

Am I tied into a contract?

No. In-person sessions are bought singly or in blocks with nothing recurring. Online coaching is rolling monthly with no minimum term, so you can stop whenever it stops being useful.

Can you coach me around an injury?

Yes, and it is one of the main areas of the practice. Programming is built around what you can safely load now and progresses towards what you want to do later. Anything requiring medical diagnosis or treatment should go through your GP or physiotherapist first.

What happens after I apply?

Callan reviews every application personally within 24 hours and replies by email with next steps. The application takes about five minutes.
